The Netherlands is introducing border controls against Belgium and Germany, announces Migration Minister Marjolein Faber.
The controls will apply from December 9 and for six months ahead, she says, calling them "a temporary and exceptional measure".
Faber, who belongs to Geert Wilders' immigration-critical party PVV, says according to De Telegraaf that the controls are intended to combat "irregular migration and migrant smuggling". Thus, another Schengen country has decided on temporary borders with reference to migration.
In September, Germany introduced controls against France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Denmark. Similar German controls had already been introduced against countries in the east and south. Austria has also introduced controls, against the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
