The District Attorney George Gascón recommended in October that the brothers should receive a lower sentence, which opens up the possibility of conditional release. Erik and Lyle Menendez were to appear in court for a decisive hearing in December, and present new evidence that the brothers were subjected to sexual abuse by their father. But the trial was postponed.
Now it is being postponed again, to March 20 and 21, writes Deadline.
"It depends on the impact that the recent wildfires have had on the parties' extensive preparations for the hearings," says Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman in a statement.
The brothers' case has been revived with the popular Netflix series "Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez" and the documentary "The Menendez Brothers" from last autumn. Support for the release of the brothers has also increased after a campaign led by, among others, Kim Kardashian.
