The Left Party wants a new tax on Sweden's super-rich. But the party has no concrete proposals for how the tax should be designed, instead wanting to leave the issue to a special investigator.

Left leader Nooshi Dadgostar says that the party has identified the group of Sweden's super-rich as one of the party's main opponents ahead of the 2026 election. The party's definition of the super-rich is people with a fortune of over one billion kronor.

Many families in Sweden today are struggling. Children go to bed at night with a lump in their stomachs from worry about how their parents will fare financially, and the super-rich have become even richer at the expense of hard-working people, Dadgostar tells TT.

Why do you designate these particular individuals as political opponents instead of other parties?

"It's about the super-rich putting a lot of pressure on hard-working families today by pushing them to pay higher food prices. They are currently operating in markets that are not working, such as the food market, for example, where one player owns most of the entire market," says Dadgostar.

However, V does not want to describe in more detail what such a tax would look like, but wants the issue to be investigated.

– It is a reform proposal that requires an investigation to ensure that the tax is effective, and that they actually pay it, says Dadgostar.
