The defense and the prosecution took two and a half days to, out of over a hundred candidates, select 12 jury members and four alternates ahead of the highly publicized trial.
The attitude towards the police was a topic that was brought up several times when the potential jury members were questioned by both sides. The presiding judge Mark Arnold found himself in what resembled a debate with those he was questioning on several occasions.
Many questions also concerned ASAP Rocky's and partner Rihanna's celebrity status. The singer was not present in court on Thursday.
Think if Rihanna comes here to the court, will it be difficult for you to see the defendant's family and deliver a guilty verdict? asked prosecutor John Lewin one of the potential jury members.
After a long pause, she replied "yes".
ASAP Rocky is suspected of having fired two shots at his childhood friend Terell Ephron, with whom he had a falling out, in November 2021. The shots allegedly grazed Ephron's fingers and ASAP Rocky has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. The maximum sentence for the crime is 24 years in prison.
This is not the first time the rapper has been brought to trial. In 2019, he was sentenced to conditional imprisonment for assault in Stockholm, a legal process that received international attention.
