1% of GDP for Green Transition

The Green Party's shadow budget focuses on climate, energy, and trains. What is required now is not tax cuts for the rich, but large investments in green transition, says the party's economic policy spokesperson Janine Alm Ericson.

She accuses the government of increasing emissions instead of reducing them with its budget.

The government has managed the feat of increasing emissions during a recession, when they usually decrease, she says.

The budget motion matches the government's regular reform space, but the Green Party proposes an investment budget equivalent to approximately 1 percent of GDP.

The money is intended for investments in, for example, expanding the railway network, industrial development, natural carbon sinks, climate adaptation, and electrification.

This would benefit us now and in the future, says Janine Alm Ericson.

The points where the Green Party's budget alternative differs most from the government's are in investments in climate, environment, energy, and communications, and particularly in trains and public transportation.

The Green Party also wants to introduce an electric car bonus of up to 60,000 kronor, where people in rural areas would receive more than those living in cities.

However, the party is also allocating more money to state subsidies for municipalities and regions than the government.

The government is allowing the healthcare crisis they themselves have driven to continue, says Janine Alm Ericson.

The party says no to further job tax deductions, reduced gasoline and diesel taxes, and the government's other tax cuts. The party also says no to abolishing the flight tax and instead wants to double it.

To finance its proposals, the Green Party suggests several tax increases, such as a bank tax on excess profits, increased progressive capital tax, and increased tax for high-income earners.

Investment in energy efficiency and green basic power of 14.6 billion kronor.

An electric car bonus with a rural profile, maximum 60,000 kronor per car.

A total of 23 billion more than the government on maintenance and expansion of the railway network.

Allocating 5 billion more than the government on protection of valuable forests.

A preschool billion and 1.5 billion to schools for strengthened equality and free breakfast in schools.
