The 38-year-old led Luleå to the ice hockey club's first Swedish Championship gold medal in 29 years this spring. Ahead of this season, Linus Omark moved to Switzerland and played in Lugano on a short-term contract at the beginning of the season. In November, however, it became clear that there would be no continuation at the club. Omark moved home and played for parent club Övertorneå in Division 3 before joining Luleå on a contract until the end of the season on Monday.
In the SHL comeback in the home game against Leksand on Thursday night, head coach Thomas “Bulan” Berglund placed the veteran and star in the first line. Omark was welcomed back with a standing ovation from the crowd when the players were introduced.
But there were no individual points in the match for him, and Luleå lost 2–3 after a penalty shootout where Omark, among others, missed his penalty.
It would have been more fun with a win. But it is what it is, we just have to take new steps, says Linus Omark to Tv4 Play.
He was relatively satisfied with his own performance.
Even though I had scored two goals and been a complete mess, this was better. I felt completely okay in the game and it will only get better and better.
