Openness and respect for each other are somewhat lacking in the debate, he says, as he comes out of the polling station at the school in Sydhavnen in Copenhagen.

For him, the economy and the foreign policy situation have been most important, and therefore he would like to see some form of cooperation across bloc borders in the next government as well.

Mette Frederiksen (S) hopes to continue as Prime Minister of Denmark, but like the other two current government parties - Venstre and Moderaterne - S is expected to lose a large number of votes compared to the 2022 election.

In the 2022 election, S received 27.5 percent. Now, the latest opinion poll from Voxmeter, conducted for the Ritzau news agency, indicates that it could be 22.4 percent for S.

“A little too arrogant”

Tanja Tjerry, who has also just voted, has a divided opinion of Mette Frederiksen.

I think it's really difficult, because Mette Frederiksen is not that popular, but I don't think there's really any alternative. Many people think she's a bit too arrogant and leans too far to the right.

The Moderates, led by Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, hope for a kingmaker position and aim to achieve some form of center-right government.

According to another recent opinion poll, from Megafon, Løkke Rasmussen looks set to win the coveted seat. According to this poll, the red bloc will receive 86 seats and the blue bloc 77 seats, reports Danish TV2. To gain a majority in the Danish parliament, 90 seats are required.

Emilija Ruta, originally from Latvia, has lived in Denmark for over five years. Figuring out how to vote was a challenge.

I've had many discussions with Danish friends to decide how to vote. I think it has been a professional election campaign, but it is sometimes difficult to understand the differences in values between the parties.

“Very open”

The polling stations close at 8 p.m. and the first election forecast will be released about an hour later. Results are expected to be available around midnight.

Steen Vestervang says that the election campaign has been tense as he leaves the polling station. It is very difficult to predict who will emerge victorious, he believes.

It's very open, it's very tight. It's hard to see what kind of government we'll get. We'll see that tomorrow.
