The Consumer Ombudsman, KO, is shutting down websites with misleading advertisements for loans. Consumers who thought they had applied for loans instead received a list of links to various credit companies. For the list, they had to pay more than 1,100 kronor – 379 kronor per month for up to three months.
"The marketing is misleading consumers. Since the target group is consumers who have a particularly strained economy, we view it as especially serious," says process counsel Ida Nyström at KO in a press release.
KO's intervention is directed against the companies behind the websites expresslån.com and cashking.nu. If the companies continue with the same marketing and charging consumers for something they did not order, they risk fines of half a million kronor.
