The goods that have decreased in price the most since last year include potatoes, small citrus fruits and canned herring. Dried nuts, chocolate and hard cheese, on the other hand, have increased compared to last year. The combined price index for the Christmas table is down 0.1 percent compared to last year.
"Even international prices, which usually affect Swedish prices with some delay, suggest that next year's Christmas table could actually be even cheaper, even if we exclude the effect of the upcoming VAT reduction," says SEB's macroeconomist Marcus Widén in a press release.
Although food prices have fallen slightly during the autumn, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages have risen by around 33 percent since 2020. Butter has become 62 percent more expensive in five years, chocolate 71 percent, hard cheese 46 and the price of fresh salmon has increased by 45 percent. This is shown by a review conducted by Statistics Sweden.
