“This is a strategic investment in the future,” says chairwoman Sofia Domeij in a press release.
"We are creating a place that gives all of Biathlon Sweden new opportunities to develop, where training, research and innovation can come together. It will be an important piece of the puzzle in our ambition for Sweden to be a world leader in biathlon."
The association will cover 60 percent of the investment.
"The construction is being carried out in collaboration with Östersund Municipality, the association's partners and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Development, which has granted the project support of 40 percent of the investment via the Regional Fund," the association writes in the press release.
Groundbreaking will be held in April or May next year and the center is planned to be completed in October 2027.
The Swedish Biathlon Federation believes that the event and performance center is an important step towards hosting the 2031 Biathlon World Championships.
