Several areas in central Texas were evacuated on Sunday, due to a new severe rainstorm that has moved in. Among other things, homes in San Saba northwest of Austin were evacuated, after the water level in the river with the same name rose quickly.

The search work along the Guadalupe River, which has been going on for about ten days, was paused for large parts of Sunday due to concerns about new high water flows.

The latest flood has, among other things, caused damage to around 100 homes.

Everything you can think of in a rural community was damaged, says Ashley Johnson at the non-profit organization Hill Country Community Action in San Saba, to AP.

We were lucky that it was daylight and that we knew it was coming.

On July 4, the river rose eight meters in 45 minutes in the early morning when many were asleep. At least 129 people died in the floods, and 166 people are still missing according to NBC News. The city of Kerrville was the worst affected. There, authorities knocked on doors on Sunday to warn residents of the risk of new floods. Telephone alarms were also sent out to people in the area.

Late on Sunday afternoon local time, it was announced that the search and rescue efforts can be resumed on Monday morning.
