The man has been detained since February 13, suspected of preparing for terrorist crimes, participating in a terrorist organization, serious crime, attempted murder, and preparing for serious crimes against the law on flammable and explosive goods.
A minor psychiatric evaluation submitted to the Stockholm District Court on Friday suggests that a serious mental disorder can be suspected in the 18-year-old.
If the case goes to trial, he will likely undergo a larger forensic psychiatric evaluation if the court finds it proven that he committed the alleged crimes, to investigate whether he should be sentenced to prison or forensic psychiatric care.
The man, who is both Syrian and Swedish citizen, was arrested in the Stockholm area on February 11 after being wanted in his absence for a week.
The 18-year-old is registered at a HVB home in Skåne and the preparatory crime is suspected to have been committed in Skåne and Stockholm counties, from August 2024 until the arrest.
The attempted murder refers to an incident in German Eppstein on August 14 last year, according to prosecutor Henrik Olin. Last week, a 17-year-old boy was also detained, suspected of involvement in the attempted murder.
The case is linked to violent Islamist extremism, according to the Security Police.
The 18-year-old terror suspect was convicted in 2023 for serious sabotage against emergency services to six months of youth supervision, for involvement in the Easter riots in the Linköping district of Skäggetorp in April 2022.
The riot broke out before the Danish right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludan was to burn a Koran in Skäggetorp.
The man, who was then 15 years old, admitted to throwing stones and destroying police cars together with others during the riot.
He is also convicted of robbery and drug offenses committed in early 2023.
