The Australian tennis legend Fred Stolle has died. He was 86 years old.
Stolle was part of Australia's golden generation when the sport was professionalized in the 1960s.
He lost his first five Grand Slam finals – including four against compatriot Roy Emerson – before winning the French Championships in 1965. The following year, he also won the US Open and was briefly world number one.
Stolle also won Davis Cup titles with Australia.
After his active career, Stolle worked as a coach for Björn Borg's rival Vitas Gerulaitis for several years. He also worked as a TV commentator.
