It has been handed over to Finnish authorities, says Swedish Navy's press officer Jimmie Adamsson to TT.
The oil-laden vessel Eagle S is suspected of having dragged its anchor for tens of kilometers on the seabed and thereby damaged several important underwater cables between Finland and Estonia, which was discovered on Christmas Day, December 25.
The vessel has been stopped and is being held in a Finnish harbor. It was found to be missing one of its two anchors, which led to a search for it.
Finnish authorities said on Friday that they had identified several locations where the anchor was suspected to be. The same day, it became clear that Sweden would send HMS Belos to assist in the investigation.
I don't know when the anchor was salvaged and I don't know the circumstances surrounding it, says Jimmie Adamsson.
Eagle S sails under the flag of the Cook Islands, but is suspected of being part of the extensive so-called shadow fleet that Russia uses to circumvent international sanctions.
A group of people in the vessel's crew are suspected of gross sabotage and gross disruption of telecommunications. It is also being investigated whether there have been breaches of the sanctions against Russia.
