On Saturday morning, the Table Tennis World Championship got underway in Doha, Qatar. And already on the first day, most Swedes impressed.

Among them were the Olympic heroes Truls Möregårdh and Anton Källberg, who started the tournament with a doubles match against the Mexican team consisting of Madrid and Rogelio Castro.

The Swedish duo took hold immediately and never looked back from there. Möregårdh and Källberg won in three straight sets with the scores 11–8, 11–9, 11–5.

It was a good match. It's 3–0 in the first match at a World Championship, it's always great to get in. But it's a really good result, says Möregårdh to SVT.

"A nice feeling"

In the next round, the Swedes will face either Argentine or Guatemalan opponents.

Later tonight, Anton Källberg will also start his singles tournament, facing Egyptian Mohamed El-Beiali at 19.50. Möregårdh will play his first match tomorrow at 14.00 against Austrian Andreas Levenko.

It's always nice to get a match in the body before, because you never know how it will feel before the first match in a new tournament and so on. So a nice feeling, says Källberg.

Karlsson also won

Earlier in the morning, Kristian Karlsson also won his first singles match 4–1 in sets against Czech Lubomír Jančařík.

In the afternoon, Mattias Falck and Linda Bergström will play the first round in mixed doubles, and the premiere day will then conclude with women's doubles, where Bergström will play again with Christina Källberg.
