Jon Dahl Tomasson's football ideology is sanctioned by the association leadership. The idea is that it will develop Swedish national team football.
So far in the World Championship qualification, the result is: One point in three matches and the chance to win the qualifying group is virtually gone. But what is the chicken and what is the egg?
Both Isak and Gyökeres mean that the performances have not been good enough.
The way to play is not wrong.
Two thoughts at the same time
I believe in the playing idea of being offensive is the right way, but you can have two thoughts in your head at the same time. We can be dissatisfied with the results, but it does not necessarily mean that everything is wrong, says Alexander Isak.
We need to perform better, do a better job as a team and take points, and we can do that in this way.
Viktor Gyökeres is on the same track.
I do not think you should just change everything if it does not work. We saw last autumn that it worked. We created a lot and scored many goals.
It has looked good even in most of the training matches before the qualification. Of course, it's sad that it has not gone as we wanted in the last matches, but we still have three matches left and we have to make sure to do it right and win those matches.
Next in the World Championship qualification, Kosovo is waiting at Ullevi in Gothenburg tonight. A match the national team must win to keep up in the fight for second place, which means playoff to the World Championship in March. The championship will be decided next summer in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
What needs to be improved?
We need to set the pressure game better. At times, we do it well, but I think we can do it more continuously over 90 minutes. We create some dangerous scoring chances, but we can absolutely get to more dangerous positions, says Gyökeres.
Create more chances
We may not have created as many chances as we want. There, we also need to get better. Create more, score more goals. It's hard to put your finger exactly on why it's not going as planned, says Isak.
Against Switzerland on Friday, Gyökeres and Isak started together for the first time this year. In a way of playing that requires a lot from each individual, it is hardly ideal.
You try to find teamwork, play close to each other. I think we two have had a good teamwork in the matches we played together, says Gyökeres.
Tonight's World Championship qualification kicks off at 20.45.
