Halvarsson is new this year in the Swedish biathlon team, but doesn't apologize for herself.

She started the World Cup premiere in Finnish Kontiolahti by winning the single mixed relay with Sebastian Samuelsson on Saturday.

And on Wednesday's short distance, she impressed even more.

"Completely incredible"

Halvarsson hit 19 out of 20 shots – the only miss was very close – and was also really fast on the track.

I don't know what to say really. It's completely incredible what she's doing, says Sweden's shooting coach Johan Hagström to SVT.

This is Halvarsson's third individual start in the World Cup.

She took a big lead when she finished with start number 4, and then got to see one top name after another try to beat the Swedish talent.

I felt "it could go" but it was also a little like a dream. The very best were far behind me in the start list. That it would be a second place, I never could have believed, says Ella Halvarsson to SVT.

Öberg on the podium

One managed to pass her. France's Lou Jeanmonnot shot full and snatched the victory with a 12.3-second margin.

But no more. Ella Halvarsson took her first individual podium in her career when she snatched second place.

Afterwards, she has a hard time understanding what she's accomplished.

There's a lot of joy. I'm just shaking. This is beyond everything I could have believed.

And it became a double Swedish podium. Elvira Öberg shot three misses but skied clearly fastest of all and became third, 56.4 seconds from victory.
