Samuel Pihlström finished in 3:54.78, which was enough for third place – and a new Swedish record on an English mile indoors. The 23-year-old has previously held the record on the same distance outdoors and now improved the old indoor record, previously held by Jonathan Grahn, by more than two seconds.
"I knew I was in good form, I've had a good autumn and winter, so I knew it could come to good times right away," says Pihlström in a press release.
Pihlström was not the only Swede who ran fast in Ostrava. Erik Erlandsson set a new Swedish record on 200 meters in Växjö a few weeks ago, and now ran exactly as fast. 20.43 seconds were enough for a clear victory in the 20-year-old's heat.
Thobias Montler came to the gala with a fresh world season best of 8.23 meters in the long jump after his successful performance in Belgrade last week.
Now Montler finally managed to jump over eight meters in his sixth and final jump, but 8.01 was only enough for third place.
Mattia Furlani, Italy, won with 8.23 and thus shares the world season best with Montler.
