Several European countries will cooperate to try to prevent the digital recruitment of young people to criminal networks. Swedish police are leading the work.

Besides Sweden and Europol, Norway, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France are part of what is called Operation Grimm, the police write on their website.

The purpose is to, through joint investigations, try to map out roles, money flows, and recruitment among the network criminals.

The idea is to identify and strike against criminal service providers, among other things, through collaborations with tech companies and identify and prevent digital recruitment. Those who are recruited are often children and young people, without prior connection to criminal networks.

When they have been recruited, the gangs exploit the children to perform a range of different criminal tasks, from drug trafficking to explosions and murder for payment.
