Unfortunately, I have no comments on that at present, she says to TT.
The manifestation was to be held on Thursday in collaboration with several organizations, including Amnesty, the Writers' Association, and Reporters Without Borders. Among the speakers were, among others, Björn Wiman, cultural editor of Dagens Nyheter, and Brit Stakston from Sveriges Tidskrifter. But Svenska Pen cancelled the arrangement on Tuesday without giving any explanation.
But I really want to add that we are so many who are fighting to get Joakim Medin home as soon as possible, says Kerstin Almegård.
Were you asked to withdraw the manifestation for tactical reasons?
I can't answer that either.
Journalist Joakim Medin traveled to Istanbul on assignment for the magazine Dagens ETC on March 27. This was to report on the extensive protests that have been held in the country since Istanbul's mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was arrested earlier in the spring.
Medin was arrested at the airport and has been indirectly accused of being a member of a terrorist organization and of insulting Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
After that, he was transferred to the massive high-security prison Marmara in Silivri, outside Istanbul, where Ekrem Imamoglu is also being held.
