After nine matches without a win at the start of the NHL season, San Jose finally won. And it was a Swede, Alexander Wennberg, who decided on overtime against Utah.
After just over a minute into overtime, in a numerical superiority, Wennberg pushed his way in front of the goal, seemed to steer a shot over but got it back immediately from the boards and managed to cleverly tap in the 5-4 goal for San Jose.
But as in earlier matches this season, it didn't seem like it would end well for San Jose. With only five minutes left of the third period, Utah, who had home advantage, led 4-1.
Then the comeback began. Wennberg's teammate Fabian Zetterlund reduced the score to 4-2 (he also scored San Jose's first goal). The Finn Mikael Granlund narrowed the gap to one goal, assisted by William Eklund, and with less than three minutes left, Alexander Wennberg was involved and played forward to Tyler Toffoli for the equalizer.
