Häcken's attacker made two new goals when Häcken beat AIK 5–2 away in the weekend. In the stands, the new national team captain of the women's football team, Tony Gustavsson, was sitting and could note that the 18-year-old Felicia Schröder is still something out of the ordinary.
What is unique is that she can score goals in a lot of different ways. She can score goals with her left, with her right, on a deep run, on a dribble or a cross, she can score goals when she is turned the wrong way and the right way, she can lob, chip, push it low into the far corner, she can shoot with her wrist, she can tunnel ... her ability to score goals is unique. There's no question, says Tony Gustavsson.
Reminds of Ljungberg
It sounds a bit like a former Swedish attacking star. Umeå icon Hanna Ljungberg was similarly enormously versatile and scored goals from all directions and angles.
She is also the latest to score as many goals as Felicia Schröder has done this season. Up to Hanna Ljungberg's goal record in the women's Allsvenskan – 39 goals in the 2002 season – Schröder still has a bit to go with her 27.
Will it be enough for a place in Tony Gustavsson's first national team squad? On October 15, he will present the players who will take on Spain in the Nations League semifinal.
Schröder's young age is not an obstacle, in any case.
Age plays absolutely no role, whether you are 40 or 18. For me, it's just about quality and properties. So when it comes to Schröder, for example, we just need to look at: Does she help us increase the likelihood of winning the match against Spain? says Gustavsson.
European tour awaits
He has already spoken to a few players before the squad selection, and there will be more. Gustavsson is going to Skåne for the women's Allsvenskan top match Malmö FF–Häcken on Wednesday, and will then go on a European tour to check out potential national team players in England, Spain, Italy, and Germany.
On October 24, the World Championship winner Spain awaits at La Rosaleda in Málaga. The return match will be played at an already sold-out Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg four days later. In the other semifinal, France and Germany meet.
A tough challenge. But we will do everything we can to select 23 players who can compete against Spain away so that the match is alive when we get to the home ground, because there we will get enormous support. And then we can be dangerous.
