Sweden is ending its mission in Greenland, where a small number of staff officers were deployed, the Swedish Armed Forces announced.

The purpose has been to assess conditions for future exercises in Greenland and the Arctic.

"We are now leaving the location, but not the engagement. The next step is to evaluate the information that has been collected and begin planning for future exercise activities," says Vice Admiral Ewa Skoog Haslum, head of operations management, on the Swedish Armed Forces website.

Last week, Sweden and several other NATO countries, at Denmark's request, sent military personnel to Greenland.

According to the Swedish Armed Forces, Sweden will participate in the Danish Arctic Endurance exercise series this year, with the aim of "strengthening security in the area and practicing the defense of NATO's northern flank."
