Several authorities have strongly criticized the proposal that the government's investigators presented in September. Among them are the Chancellor of Justice and the State Treasury.
In its response to the consultation, the Swedish Migration Board points out that a decision on a permanent residence permit entails several advantages for those affected.
"Introducing legislation that is detrimental to the individual therefore places high demands on the justification of the legislation," says Maria Mindhammar, Director General of the Swedish Migration Board, in a comment .
The agency assesses that there is a risk that the investigation has significantly underestimated the costs of the proposal. According to the Migration Board, the total initial cost could be closer to SEK 6 billion compared to the investigation's assessment of SEK 1.2 billion.
"We can conclude that the investigation's proposal would have a very large impact on the Swedish Migration Board and require more resources for the authority," says Maria Mindhammar.
