The first program is completed and right now the Swedish ice dance pair Milla Ruud Reitan and Nikolaj Majorov have an Olympic Games spot in their hands. The duo struck with a personal best in the rhythmic dance and are third ahead of Sunday's final of the qualifying competition in Peking.

Only four quota places are at stake in China for the world's ice dance pairs who want to reach the figure skating competitions at the Milan Olympic Games in February. With a new personal best of 69.30 points in the rhythmic dance, Milla Ruud Reitan and Nikolaj Majorov have the upper hand to get there. The pair is in third place ahead of Sunday's decisive free dance.

"We are super satisfied with both the skate and the points! We have worked extremely hard all summer and prepared ourselves in the best way, so it feels fantastic to get a reward for all the effort. Very happy with today's result – now we recharge for the free dance on Sunday!" says the duo to the Swedish Figure Skating Association's website.

In the ladies' class, Josefin Taljegård is trying to take one of the five remaining Olympic quota places. Taljegård got 54.19 points in the short program and is in ninth place ahead of Saturday's free program. The Swede has just over five points up to a fifth place.

In the spring, Andreas Nordebäck secured a Swedish quota place in the men's class by finishing in 17th place at the World Championship in Boston, USA.

Corrected version: Previously, the wrong day was stated for the ladies' free program.
