The apartment building they live in, which is 48 floors high, began to sway and was on the verge of collapsing when a powerful earthquake shook Southeast Asia on Friday morning, Swedish time.
Mahmoud Eid, who has a past in the Allsvenskan with Kalmar FF, fled in panic with his fiancée from the 12th floor.
Suddenly, the whole apartment started shaking and the building began to sway. We didn't really understand what was happening until things started falling down from the building. We realized it was collapsing, he tells Aftonbladet and continues:
"Thought it was over"
We opened the door and saw that everyone else (on the floor) started rushing out. We then ran out via the emergency stairs as quickly as possible.
Eid says it's "the first time I'm so scared in my life".
I thought it was over. The way the building swayed, with things falling from the ceiling. Both I and Amanda, my fiancée, thought it was over. But we managed to run out and escape.
"Shock"
Viktor Lövgren, who previously played in the Superettan with Sirius, lives on the 8th floor. He tells Aftonbladet that they both are buying basic necessities in case they can't get home again – as it's uncertain exactly how their building has fared.
You're in shock. We just had to evacuate, it was shaking and things were falling. It was terrifying, says Lövgren.
The US Geological Survey fears thousands of fatalities in the powerful earthquake, with a calculated magnitude of 7.7, which has shaken Southeast Asia.
