The two are suspected of serious weapons-related crimes, and were arrested in Dubai by local police after being internationally wanted.
In the spring, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates signed an extradition agreement. The agreement was ratified in the summer.
”This is a clear example of how our international cooperation makes a difference – no criminal can longer feel safe anywhere”, says Stefan Hector in the press release.
One person is suspected on probable cause of serious harboring of offenders, incitement of serious weapons crimes and serious weapons crimes. The other is suspected on probable cause of serious weapons crimes. The investigations have been led by the police in Region South.
Prosecutor Mårten Alvinsson, who has led the preliminary investigation, does not want to provide more information about the investigation, but points to the importance of close cooperation with other states, something he sees as central to being able to conduct effective preliminary investigations.
The handover has been carried out after a court decision and an approval from the Emirati Ministry of Justice.
