In 2024, cultural appropriations amounted to only 0.14 percent of GDP, which corresponds to SEK 218 per month per inhabitant.
Sweden thus ranks at the bottom among the Nordic countries, along with Finland. At 1.0 percent of public spending devoted to culture, Sweden is also below the EU average of 1.3 percent.
DIK emphasizes that, given the government's increased focus on private funding, sponsorship must never replace public funding, as this risks widening gaps in access to culture across the country.
The report was prepared by the accounting firm PwC, based on data from the Swedish Financial Management Agency and Eurostat.
