According to a letter to the EU Vehicle Committee that the news agency has seen, the Swedish Transport Administration recommends that the EU reject a broad rollout of Tesla's "Full self-driving" (FSD) system unless its ability to exceed speed limits is removed.
Elon Musk-owned Tesla's system allows drivers to set a so-called "speed offset," which lets the car drive faster than the posted speed. The Swedish Transport Administration warns that the feature could undermine traffic laws and the safety benefits of automated driving. Several Nordic countries, including Finland and Norway, have also expressed concerns about the system.
The Swedish Transport Administration demands in the letter that the feature be removed. “If this does not happen, the Swedish Transport Administration recommends that the EU Vehicle Committee vote against the proposed introduction,” it says, according to Reuters.
The issue will be discussed at the EU Vehicle Committee on June 30 ahead of a planned vote on EU approval.
