Sweden is once again voting against granting discharge for the EU's annual budget. It is important to highlight that things are going in the wrong direction, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M).

If we didn't do that (vote no), we would be saying yes to these errors that have become very big.

Errors refer to, among other things, the proportion of incorrect payments in the management of the EU budget. Two percent or less is considered acceptable - but in 2024, which has now been audited, the error rate was 3.6 percent.

It is up to the Commission to eliminate the errors, said Svantesson at Tuesday's finance ministers' meeting in Brussels, adding that large amounts of taxpayers' money are involved.

Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands also voted against the discharge for 2024 at the meeting. However, the no votes had little effect, as the large majority gave the green light.
