Sweden Pursues Semifinal Spot in International Crown Golf Tournament

A win and a loss. The Swedish golfers shared the points with Japan in the team competition International Crown, but Sweden still has the chance to advance to the final.

Sweden is the only country in Europe that has a team in the International Crown, which this time is decided in South Korea.

The initial group stage matches are decided in the best ball format and in the meeting with Japan, the match was over for Madelene Sagström and Ingrid Lindblad on the 16th hole. Miyu Yamashi and Rio Takeda won with 3/2.

It went better for Maja Stark and Linn Grant. The Swedes were never at a disadvantage against Ayaka Furue/Mao Saigo and won with 3/2.

In the initial match against South Korea, Sweden took half a point after a lost and a drawn match.

In Saturday's last group stage match, a compiled world team is waiting, which tops the group with three points ahead of South Korea (two points), Japan (1.5) and Sweden (1.5).

The world team consists of Lydia Ko, New Zealand, Charley Hull, England, Brooke Henderson, Canada, and Hsu Wei–Ling, Taiwan.

In the second group, the USA (4 points), Australia (2), Thailand (1) and China (1) are playing.

On Sunday, the semifinals, the match for third place and the final will be played. Then the matches are decided through two singles and a foursome match.

The premiere edition of the International Crown was decided in 2014 and the team golf tournament is decided every other year, but the pandemic cancelled the tournament in England in 2020.

Sweden has had a team in four out of five tournaments with a second place in 2014 as the best result.

A total of eight four-man teams are participating, divided into two groups. The two top teams in each group advance to the semifinals.
