Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and the Netherlands are participating in the joint procurement of armored vehicles of the CV90 model, which in Sweden is referred to as Stridsfordon 90.
–It's about several hundred combat vehicles. This is a large volume increase of CV90 and there are many more countries now that are interested, Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) states on the spot in Brussels.
The plans were announced in April, and it is now time for the formal signing of a "declaration of intent," in connection with Thursday's defense minister meeting in NATO.
80 vehicles
For example, for Norway, it's about buying 80 vehicles, says the country's defense minister Tore O Sandvik to the news agency NTB.
The deal means that Lithuania will become the eleventh country to use CV90. Sweden hopes for even more with the help of more standardized equipment, not least when it comes to the type of ammunition used.
–For every country we get into this family, it also means opportunities for us to share development costs. It will be cheaper if we have the same type of model of combat vehicles, says Pål Jonson.
Ukrainian need
He promises at the same time that deliveries of CV90 to Ukraine will not be affected.
–We will find solutions that meet the needs of all allies as well as Ukraine, says the defense minister in Brussels.
