Win in the quarterfinals means secured medal. Now awaits second-seeded Germany in Friday's quarterfinal. A tough match for the ladies who are seeded fifth in the championship in Zadar.
Germany is for me the toughest team so we need to make a good performance, but we believe in ourselves, says Bergand.
Bergand made sure to secure the 3–0 win by defeating Elvira Rad in a five-set thriller. It was Sweden's third straight win in the European Championship, but she was not satisfied with her performance.
I think I'm making a pretty bad match. I'm very afraid and she finds a good point to push. I was very angry with myself and the whole situation, she says after the win with 11–8, 8–11, 11–4, 7–11, 11–9.
Easy wins
It went easier in the first two matches. Sweden's number one Linda Bergström, ranked tenth in Europe, beat seventh-ranked Maria Xiao with 12–10, 11–5, 11–7 and gave the Swedes the perfect start.
It could hardly have gone better. It's important that we go in and beat their number one directly, they probably didn't count on that, says Bergström.
Then Stina Källberg followed up by defeating Zhang Xuan in three straight sets.
Thrives as number one
The men are reigning European Champions, but have to manage without injured star Truls Möregårdh.
In his place, Europe's seventh Anton Källberg is number one. He both started and finished in the 3–1 win against tricky Poland.
Now awaits Romania in the quarterfinal.
I try to win my matches and if I can lead the team as number one and win matches, I'm in a good position. But we do it together as a team, says Källberg to SVT.
Källberg first defeated Marek Badowski with 3–0 in sets and then decided by defeating Polish number one, 19-year-old Milosz Redzimski, ranked 17th in Europe, with 11–7, 11–7, 9–11, 11–6.
Källberg impressed in both his matches, especially with his fast feet.
I felt a bit tired in the end, it's very physically demanding to play like I do. When I move well, serve and return well, then I thrive.
Even Kristian Karlsson defeated Redzimski (3–1), while Mattias Falck lost his match against Maciej Kubik with 1–3.
It was Sweden's first and so far only loss.
