SVT has requested a billion-kronor supplement from the state for increased costs when TV4 disappears from the terrestrial network. According to Mikael Frisell, Director-General of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), it is a preparedness issue that he believes the government will prioritize.

It is a preparedness issue. Then you have to pay for it, you cannot put it on the two actors that are left. There, we all have a responsibility as taxpayers to get a system that works. I think the government will ensure that going forward, says Frisell according to the newspaper Journalisten, at a preparedness conference held on Tuesday in Stockholm.

In a letter to the government, SVT's CEO Anne Lagercrantz has requested 1.5 billion kronor in additional funding from the state. The fact that TV4 is disappearing from the terrestrial network at the turn of the year will mean "extraordinary increased costs" for SVT already this autumn.

Lagercrantz emphasizes that the government needs to quickly process the matter so that the terrestrial network and SVT's role in total defense can be secured in the long term.

However, she points out to Journalisten that the government has not yet provided any response to the issue.

It was in August that TV4 announced that it is leaving the terrestrial network to focus on its streaming service. This means that the channel will no longer be free for those who watch via antenna.
