Eriksson passed away on Monday morning at his home in Björkefors outside Sunne, surrounded by his family.
"Dad told the public about his serious illness at the beginning of the year and received an amazing response from friends and football friends around Europe. He was invited to several football teams in England, Italy, Portugal, and Sweden. They shared their love for football and for dad. It was unforgettable for both him and us," say Lina and Johan Eriksson.
"We have shared his gratitude and experienced the wonderful meetings between him, football, and all friends. We thank everyone from the heart for these positive memories and your support during his illness."
In March, Sven-Göran Eriksson announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer and did not have much time left to live.
I know that in the best case, I have about a year, in the worst case less, he said in the Sunday interview on P1.
The cancer had spread to the pancreas and was inoperable. Now the football legend has passed away, just over five months after the announcement.
Coach for Liverpool
After the cancer diagnosis, the entire football world showed its support for "Svennis". He visited many of his old clubs and was hailed.
He also got to be the coach for Liverpool in an exhibition match at Anfield. A dream for the lifelong Liverpool supporter.
Additionally, several of his former players sent greetings, expressing their appreciation for their old coach.
England's former national team captain David Beckham visited "Svennis" in Värmland as recently as June.
He came with six liters of wine with dates that were important to me, Eriksson told P4 Värmland.
Broke through in Blåvitt
"Svennis" is Sweden's greatest football coach of all time, with a long career filled with success behind him.
The Torsby native broke through first in IFK Göteborg, when he took the team to a historic victory in the Uefa Cup in 1982. It was the first time a Swedish team managed to win a title in Europe. "Blåvitt" also won in 1987.
After that, "Svennis" moved abroad, where he coached several major clubs like Benfica, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and Manchester City.
He had his greatest success at club level in Lazio, where he won Serie A in the 1999/00 season. A title that led to the Swede getting one of the most coveted jobs in football and becoming the national team coach for England.
"Svennis" led the team in the World Championship 2002, European Championship 2004, and World Championship 2006. It stopped in the quarterfinals in all tournaments.
After that, it was more anonymous jobs for "Svennis" in national teams like Ivory Coast and the Philippines, and club teams in China before he ended his coaching career.
Sven-Göran Eriksson was 76 years old. He leaves behind his children Lina and Johan.
Correction: In an earlier version, the number of Uefa Cup wins by Swedish teams was incorrectly stated.
