I can confirm that two people have died in connection with a shooting. They were found in a car and we have initiated a preliminary investigation into murder, says the police's press spokesperson Fredrik Svedemyr to TT.
The alarm about a suspected serious violent crime came in at 17.39 on Tuesday. An extensive police effort with helicopters and dog handlers was launched in the Lunden district of Gothenburg. At the crime scene in a residential area, a tent was set up over a car where the police's technicians were seen working intensively.
The police were silent for a long time, but confirmed just after 22.30 that two people had been found shot in a car.
We are still on site in Lunden and will continue to work intensively throughout the evening and night. Currently, no one is suspected or arrested, says Fredrik Svedemyr.
Connection to gang conflict
A parking garage and a store are located within the cordoned-off area in the residential area, which consists of apartment buildings. The police have gone door-to-door and worked on gathering information.
We have made checks on both people and vehicles in connection with the site that for various reasons have been of interest to the investigative work, says Svedemyr.
The double murder is linked to a conflict between criminals in the Biskopsgården district on Hisingen, writes GP with reference to police sources.
A previous double murder in the city, in April, is related to the same conflict, according to the newspaper's information.
Soccer training nearby
The local soccer club Lunden ÖBK had a training session just nearby, parallel to the police effort.
There was full activity with maybe 150 children and coaches, completely unaware of what had happened. It was just 50 meters from where it happened, says the club's chairman to Aftonbladet.
The youngest are born in 2017. To not worry them too much, we finished the training and went out the other way. We said that there had been an accident. Everyone probably has a lot of questions now when they get home to their parents.
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (The Moderate Party) writes in a comment to TT that he "thinks of all residents in the area and the children and young people who were at soccer training".
"This confirms once again that we must continue to do everything we can to push back the serious violence. Much more needs to be done, and the government does not intend to slow down", he continues.
In late June, a man in his 30s was shot near the current location.
