The high-profile double murder in Brattås occurred in 2005, when an elderly couple was found dead on their farm.

Over the years, hundreds of people have been DNA tested without success. The turning point came last year with a new law that makes it possible to use DNA-based genealogy in murder investigations. Then, police were able to link the now-indicted man to the scene.

Acted in panic

During Friday's hearing, the man repeated his previous story that he came to the farm by chance after hearing screams. When he arrived there, he saw two men leaving the scene and found the woman lifeless with "nasty injuries" to her head. He dragged the dead woman into a barn, saying he did so in panic and shock.

"I was afraid of being suspected if someone found her," he said in court, according to the newspaper Ångermanland.

I dragged her into the barn. In retrospect, it was clearly an idiotic decision.

The suspected perpetrator's DNA has been found inside a handbag that belonged to the murdered woman. The man was asked about the bag during the investigation, but did not mention it before. He now says the reason for this was that it "didn't seem important."

Haven't slept in four months

The man says he considered contacting the police after the incident, but that it was "too late."

I would have done it right away.

He also says that he tried to avoid media coverage of the murder.

"I feel bad when I hear about it," says the man, also claiming that he hasn't slept in four months, reports TV4 Nyheterna.
