He had a World Junior Championship gold from 2023 and a fourth place in the World Cup as his best result before the World Championship in Lenzerheide. Then the 22-year-old Campbell Wright struck with silver in the sprint, which he then followed up with another silver in the pursuit.
If I had words to describe what I've done now, I would have written a book. It's a crazy feeling, completely unbelievable, says Wright, who was very surprised to have repeated the success from the sprint.
After what I did yesterday, I felt that I didn't have anything to prove today, so I just went out and enjoyed it. And I liked every meter I did on the track and every shot I took.
"Gets the sport to grow"
It wasn't just Wright who had trouble believing he would take a second medal.
I didn't really think he would make it again today after such a release yesterday. It's damn impressive to hit 19 targets today, says Viktor Brandt.
The Swedes welcome more nations reaching the top.
Cool that other countries also come and show off. It gets the sport to grow, says Jesper Nelin.
15 biathletes in total
Wright was 16 years old when he started with biathlon. But after taking World Junior Championship gold in 2023, he moved to the USA, where his parents come from.
In New Zealand, there are only 15 biathletes between the ages of 10-50, says the silver medalist.
There's no money and New Zealand usually only produces one talented athlete in each sport. Alice Robinson also took a World Championship medal recently, he says about the alpine star who came second in the giant slalom in Saalbach.
