In 2022, the police were given the opportunity to help the Swedish Enforcement Authority collect debts, which the government says has been effective in stifling the criminal economy. Now the government wants the Swedish Economic Crime Agency, the Coast Guard and the Swedish Customs to also be able to help the Swedish Enforcement Authority seize property.

"We are now giving more authorities the opportunity to act jointly against criminal actors who have unpaid debts to the Swedish Enforcement Authority," says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a press release.

Measures to modernize and streamline foreclosures are also included in the proposal.

The legislative amendments are proposed to enter into force on July 1, 2026.
