At 9:45, the broad OMXS index has dropped by 0.7 percent, roughly like the larger European stock exchanges.

The movements among the heavyweights are still relatively small, with investment company Kinnevik falling the most, minus 1.8 percent. Some of the major banks are moving against the trend.

In the USA, the stock exchanges closed on a plus on Friday, before the credit rating agency Moody's downgraded the US credit rating. Ahead of the opening, the futures trading on Wall Street is clearly pointing downwards. The long American market interest rates have increased and the dollar has weakened as a consequence of the lower rating, which fundamentally is about the US debt mountain growing increasingly larger.

Most stock exchanges have also fallen somewhat during the night's Asian trading.

The krona is strengthening to around 9. One euro costs 10.92.
