The Chinese partner BFAA has not been able to fulfill its commitments within the agreed timeframes, according to the World Culture Museums of which the Museum of East Asia is a part.
"We had been looking forward to giving the Swedish audience the opportunity to encounter Qi Baishi's artistry. But we have now reached a point where it is no longer practically possible," says Superintendent Britta Söderqvist in a press release.
Qi Baishi (1864–1957) is a central figure in modern Chinese ink painting and was to be part of the Museum of East Asia's efforts when the museum reopens after renovation in September.
