The financially strained steel company Stegra has reached a supply agreement with German steelmaker Thyssenkrupp, Stegra said in a press release.

In total, this involves deliveries of at least 100,000 tons to the company Thyssenkrupp Materials Processing, according to Stegra, which is still seeking financing to complete its steel factory in Boden and critical infrastructure to get production and deliveries started.

According to the agreement, deliveries are to begin in 2027.

Stegra (formerly H2 Green Steel) was founded in 2020, with the goal of using new fossil-free production methods to produce what is known as “green steel.” The plan is currently to start producing 2.5 million tons of green steel per year in a newly built factory in Boden, starting in one year.

The company has already attracted just over SEK 70 billion for its project - from a long list of owners and lenders. But according to a press release from October 13 last year, Stegra is seeking another SEK 10 billion, including to cover investments in Luleå Port and new railway tracks at the factory site in Boden.
