The Labour Party leader in Scotland, Anas Sarwar, is calling on the Prime Minister to leave Downing Street and let the country's government concentrate on real problems that affect the everyday lives of Britons.
"That's why this distraction must end. And the leadership must be replaced," he said at a press conference.
Similar words came from the leader of the Greens, Zack Polanski, on Monday.
But from Starmer's office, the message is that "the Prime Minister is fully focused on delivering change across the country. That was the tone of his speech to his staff on Monday morning."
The developments come after Starmer's communications director Tim Allan announced his resignation, just the day after Chief of Staff Morgan McSweeney resigned in the wake of the scandals revealed in the Epstein files.
"I have decided to step aside to allow a new government team to emerge. I wish the Prime Minister and those around him all the best," Allan wrote in a statement.
In addition, Starmer is under pressure over developments surrounding Peter Mandelson, the dismissed ambassador to the United States, who has been shown to have had close contacts with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“The decision to appoint Peter Mandelson was wrong,” McSweeney wrote when he announced his resignation on Sunday, adding that he takes “full responsibility” for advising Starmer to appoint Mandelson.
