There are several nearly ten-year-old posts that were noticed last week.
Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón has had to apologize for derogatory and racist texts about Islam and Muslims, but also about George Floyd. The black man was murdered by American police, which triggered mass protests in the USA in 2020.
But the apology is not enough for Netflix, which is in the middle of a campaign to bring home several Oscar statuettes for the film "Emilia Pérez", in which Karla Sofía Gascón plays the lead role.
Gascón made history as the first openly trans person to be nominated for an Oscar as an actor, but now she is practically being stopped from participating in several of the galas arranged to promote the film before the Oscar jury, writes Variety.
Netflix has removed Gascón from all promotional material before the Oscar gala and no longer pays compensation to the star so that she can attend galas and give interviews for the film.
Gascón has reacted strongly to the scandal and, among other things, given several interviews without permission from Netflix's PR department.
"They are trying to subject me to 'cancel culture'", she wrote, among other things, on Instagram.
"Emilia Pérez" is a musical by French director Jacques Audiard and is about the leader of a drug cartel who wants to become a woman. Before the scandal broke out, the film was a major Oscar favorite with a total of 13 nominations before the gala on March 2.
