Yoon Suk-Yeol has been indicted since before for leading a suspected attempt at a coup in South Korea, after he declared a short-lived state of emergency in the country in early December and sent the military to parliament.
He denies the allegations and has insisted that as head of state he had the authority to introduce martial law.
He was removed from office in early April when the Constitutional Court in an impeachment proceeding decided that the declaration did not meet the legal requirements for a national crisis.
The latest arrest warrant was issued due to concerns that the former president would "destroy evidence" in the case of martial law.
In the criminal trial, a guilty verdict can lead to a maximum of life imprisonment or even the death penalty.
