South Korea's former first lady, Kim Keon-Hee, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for corruption.

Kim was convicted of accepting luxury gifts, such as a Chanel bag and a diamond necklace, from the Unification Church religious movement. In exchange, the movement allegedly received promises of political benefits.

At the trial on Wednesday, Kim faced three counts, including manipulating stock prices and violating political contribution laws.

She was acquitted on two of the three counts due to lack of evidence.

Kim's husband, former South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol, was recently sentenced to five years in prison in the first of several pending sentences. Yoon imposed martial law in South Korea in December 2024 and was ousted a few months later.
