The South African president Cyril Ramaphosa closed the country's police minister from his office on Sunday after suspicions of corruption.
Earlier in July, a police chief at local level presented accusations against the police minister, Senzo Mchunu, and announced that a criminal investigation had been initiated.
Among other things, Mchunu is suspected of having received money from a person who appears in a corruption investigation. He is also accused of deliberately having worked to dissolve a department within the police that focuses on investigating politically motivated murders.
Several opposition parties have in turn criticized President Ramaphosa for only choosing to close the minister, instead of completely removing him.
South Africa has long had problems with high levels of corruption.
