The halt was mentioned by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in a speech last week, and the details are now being confirmed by Defense Minister Margarita Robles.
"This was made clear to the U.S. military and forces from the beginning. This means that the bases, and of course Spanish airspace, cannot be used for any activity related to the war in Iran," Robles told the media.
The decision affects, among other things, the large bases of Rota and Morón in southern Spain, at which U.S. flights could potentially stop over.
The Spanish government has previously been among Europe's most critical of Israel's military campaign in Gaza, and now describes the war in Iran as illegal.
