"We are fine. We are warriors," his son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, quoted his father in a video published by Venezuela's ruling socialist party, PSUV.
The United States captured Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in a raid in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on January 3. He was then taken to the United States and charged with what the country calls "narcoterrorism." Maduro himself denies any wrongdoing and has said he is still president of his home country.
Following Maduro's capture, Venezuela's former Vice President Delcy Rodríguez took over and was sworn in as interim president earlier this week.
