Last Thursday, the Food Workers' Union (Livsmedelsarbetareförbundet) announced a strike against SMD Logistics, which delivers most of the snus and tobacco to stores in Sweden.
The reason is that SMD Logistics has left its membership in the Food Industry Association and joined the Swedish Trade Federation.
Later on Thursday, SMD Logistics stated that "a strike is not imminent" and that deliveries will continue as usual.
We will have a collective agreement on April 1, says Ida Forsén, chief negotiator at SMD Logistics to TT on Friday.
No strike will break out from April 1. Deliveries will continue just as usual.
But according to the Food Workers' Union, the strike notice is still in effect.
It is we as a union that has issued the notice, and the one we have issued cannot withdraw our notice.
Per Ewaldsson, chief lawyer at the Mediation Institute, confirms that the notice remains.
It has not been withdrawn. Not yet, anyway. It may happen. We will contact the affected parties today to clarify the situation.
If SMD Logistics does not sign a collective agreement with the Food Workers' Union or rejoins the Food Industry Association, the notice will take effect on April 1, affecting around 150 food workers, writes the Food Workers' Union in a press release.
